Adidas Predator X Review
The Adidas Predator series has been the power boot king ever since its release in 1994. The tenth incarnation of this legendary cleat has quite a large bar to reach. With the Predator X, Adidas has surpassed all previous versions, and have created a cleat for the ages.
For the first time Adidas has dropped the covered lacing and instead now offer side lacing to create a larger striking surface. The previous Predator, the Powerswerve, was popular for its Powerswerve element. This was a series of liquid rubber strips on the upper which provided immense swerve and control. Now building off this success, Adidas has covered the entire striking area of the Predator X with a rubber silicon compound (above). This surface provides new levels of grip and swerve. Because it covers more of the striking area than the old Powerswerve elements did, it is far more effective.
Another standout feature of the Predator Powerswerve was the Powerpulse, a chamber on the bottom of the shoe filled with tungsten powder. This chamber allowed your foot to carry more momentum forward, boosting the power of your kicks. On the new Predator X, the Powerpulse has been replaced with the Powerspine. Through extensive testing, Adidas has found that the new Powerspine allows for zero loss of power from your foot to the ball. In addition to all of this, Adidas has developed a completely new material for the rest of the cleat. The Taurus leather combines the comfort and touch of kangaroo leather with the durability of a synthetic material.
Adidas initially released the Predator X in the classic predator colors of Black/White/Red (top of post) , but also the distinct White/Dark Brown/Pure Yellow (above). The legendary Predator wearer, David Beckham, has his own colorway of the Predator X (bottom left). Also, in conjunction with the Champions League, Adidas released the Champions League version, Real Blue/Running White/Light Scarlet (bottom right).
With all these amazing new technologies, its no wonder the Predator X is worn by such legends as David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Michael Ballack, Robin Van Persie, and Raul, and that it was designed with input from Zinedine Zidane.

I recently purchased the Predator X’s and am having a hard time breaking them in. They are causing blisters all over my feet. The top of both pinky toes and on my outside heel in particular. Both spots are directly caused by the synthetic parts of the boot. The edge of the plastic heel and where the plastic ends for the three stripes. I’m hoping they will break in soon as I’ve only worn them for about an hour and a half until now…mainly because I can’t wear them for more than half an hour at a time due to the blistering.
Having said that, I hope they break in well because the Powerspine is definitely not a gimmick. I find that even when I don’t hit the ball flush I get more power on my shots. Also, the swerve I get when crossing and shooting is more pronounced wearing these cleats.
I hope this review is helpful for you guys, I will post another one after getting a few hows in them and let you know if they break in.
Hey -
Thanks so much for leaving a great comment! I definitely agree that the Predator X´s take a while to break in, but once they do, they are definitely worth it. I would suggest trying to wear them around the house for awhile without doing anything strenuous in them. That should help with the discomfort. And yes, the powerspine is a great addition.
Looking forward to another review!
Well, I’ve spent some more time breaking them in and it has gotten better. I’ve been doing some juggling and taking shots so as to not exert too much friction while wearing them. The leather has loosened somewhat however they are still causing blisters. I think they will be okay over time, it’s just taking a lot longer than expected. I have spent about 3 hours in them now. Most of my other cleats have been broken in by now, oh well!
Okay, I decided break in time was over and wore them in a game last night. I taped up the parts of my feet most prone to blister just in case and it worked well.
Again, I have to reiterate how impressed I am with the performance of these boots. I’m getting more power on my shots, which I’m attributing to the Powerspine and control is great. I find the ball sticks to my feet much better with these compared to my previous cleats.
I’m not 100% about the fit because I am still blistering but I do think after a couple more hours they should be fine. There has already been a big improvement since I got them.
Hey -
Thanks so much for the great comments! Getting this extra input is really helpful to us. That’s too bad about to continued blistering, but like you said, I’m sure it’ll fade. And in my opinion, it’s completely worth it since the cleats are so great. Just use some bandages or a wrap to keep your feet from blistering, and you’ll be scoring from all over the place!

For those who don’t speak Spanish, I think a translation is in order! Eduardo asked if there’s a bubble in the bottom of Predator TRX cleats that helps with balance. I answered that yes, there’s a bubble of filings of silicon that help with balance and add some power to your shots.
